The exhibition of the photographer Clara Martinez Thedy arrives in Cannes

After London, Paris, Miami or Abu Dhabi, it is the city of Cannes that welcomes the exhibition of the famous photographer of Dominican origin Clara Martinez Thedy. This exhibition called “Images Dérobées” will be presented at the Renaissance Art Gallery, in Cannes, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region from July 7 to 18, 2021.

Clara Martinez Thedy was born in Bogota of Uruguayan and Argentinean parents. To perfect her talent as a photographer, she attended the International Center of Photography in New York but also a training in Paris, with one of the undisputed masters of the black and white image, Georges Fèvre.

 

Clara Martinez Thedy has already exhibited in many countries around the world. Solo exhibitions have been held in Santo Domingo, London, Miami, Paris, Abu Dhabi, while group exhibitions in which she has participated have been held in Argentina, Cuba, United States, China, France, Belgium, Spain and the United Arab Emirates.

The culture, the childhood, the popular traditions, the Dominican carnival, the religious processions and the Marian devotions are recurring subjects in her works. Clara Martinez Thedy poses thus an observant and attentive glance on our society and the world which surrounds it.

This new exhibition will gather all the photographs selected with care by Clara Martinez Thedy. The pictures present in the exhibition were taken on the spot during summer vacations, on terraces or at the beach, in these so particular moments where the bodies are relaxed and bare, revealing well beyond the simple appearances of the human being.

 

In each tattoo, there is a personal mystery, something secret that reveals the person who wears it in a different way,” says the artist photographer.

Clara Martinez Thedy has also just published her first book “Africa Serena 30 years later“. A book moreover rewarded by the first prize “Emotion in the skin“, during the first biennial of photography and video at the National Gallery of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo.
