Streaming. The Met Gala 2020, as if you were there

The Met Gala, organized every year on the first Monday of May, could not take place due to the global coronavirus pandemic. However, this major event was preparing to celebrate its 150th anniversary this year. To console us, Anna Wintour has therefore launched a 2.0 edition, in the form of a live broadcast on Youtube yesterday, Monday 4 May. A reminder of what you’ve been missing.

Since its creation in 1948, the Met Gala has continued to grow. Initially a charity gala, formerly called the “Costume Institute Gala“, it was launched by fashion journalist Eleanor Lambert to raise funds for the Costume Institute. Today, the entire fashion world is attending the event.

Every year, every first Monday of May, the biggest celebrities from all over the world gather at the New York Metropolitan Museum Of Art (MOMA) to spend one of the most prestigious evenings.

For its 150th edition, the MOMA Costume Institute exhibition, decided to honor the history of fashion with the theme: “About Time: Fashion and Duration“, the relationship between fashion and time and its past.

The MOMA was to exhibit new acquisitions presented especially for this occasion.

Because of the Metropolitan Museum’s inevitable and responsible decision to close its doors, About Time and the opening gala will not be able to take place on the scheduled date. At the same time, we will be giving you a preview of this extraordinary exhibition in our upcoming issue,” explains Anna Wintour, Co-Chair of the Met Gala.

The Met Gala has therefore been postponed to a later date, but to allow us to relive this prestigious event, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue magazine and co-chair of the event has decided to organize a live broadcast, to be broadcast exclusively on YouTube.

It will be impossible to recreate the ceremony. So I’ve asked a few friends to join me for a little while, which I hope will bring some joy,” says Anna Wintour.

The American magazine channel hosted the first digital edition of the Met Gala entitled “A Moment With The Met” at 6pm yesterday, Monday, co-hosted by Anna Wintour, Nicolas Ghesquière, Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton Women’s Collections, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Meryl Streep and Emma Stone.

Celebrities such as Virgil Abloh, Cardi B, Stella McCartney, Naomie Campbell and Karli Kloss were also the prestigious guests of this live show.

A call for donations was also launched to support “A Common Thread”, at the initiative of the CFDA and in collaboration with Vogue to support American designers hit by this health crisis.

Exclusive videos can be found on the YouTube channel of Vogue magazine.
