Tribute to Karl Lagerfeld

In 2022, the Met Gala celebrated the golden age of the United States through the theme In America: An Anthology of Fashion. For the 2023 edition, the charity gala will pay tribute to Karl Lagerfeld, four years after his death.

The Costume Institute 2023 exhibition, entitled Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, will trace the designer’s immense career. The Kaiser, who made such an impact on the fashion world, worked at several major houses such as Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and his eponymous brand, Karl Lagerfeld. More than just a look back, the exhibition will also present the creative process of the designer.

It will be open to the public from May 5 to July 16, 2023.

With such a theme, the predictions are going well on the historical muses of Karl Lagerfeld will make the trip. This is the case of Vanessa Paradis, Inès de la Fressange or Cara Delevingne. Similarly, the dress code  “In honor of Karl” will undoubtedly call for black and white tones, smoked glasses and leather mittens.

Gala chairs

Vogue US editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has been honorary chairperson of the Met Gala since 1995. After being surrounded last year by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Regina King, she will co-chair the 2023 ceremony alongside some big names. Among them, Dua Lipa, who recently completed her Future Nostalgia world tour, Penélope Cruz, Karl Lagerfeld’s muse, Michaela Coel, a committed actress and screenwriter, as well as Roger Federer, who announced his retirement last September, after more than 20 years of career and 20 Grand Slam titles won.
