Le Bon Marché celebrates its 170th anniversary in style

From August 27th to October 16th, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche celebrates its 170th anniversary and unveils surprises and animations not to be missed!

In 1852, Aristide Boucicaut, the son of hatters who moved to Paris to become a calico, quickly realized that there was a place for a new type of business. With his wife Marguerite, he transformed a simple shop into a Parisian “department store” with a wide range of products and where you could stroll around as you pleased. The Bon Marché Rive Gauche was born. Innovations multiplied: fixed prices, reduced margins, home delivery, white month, sales, private concerts, library corner… All over the world, people were inspired by this commercial model invented by this pioneering couple.

For the 170th anniversary of the department store, it’s time to celebrate with multiple events. Orange, the emblem of Le Bon Marché, is the color of choice for this colorful anniversary. From ready-to-wear to accessories and home decor, Le Bon Marché has created a series of original products in collaboration with exceptional brands.

In addition to shopping, the department store is offering a raffle. To be won? An electric bike, precious jewelry, beautiful leather goods or a beautiful candle. To be found on the second floor of the store and online. Another exclusive feature is that every Thursday from 5pm onwards, traditional surprise bags filled with gifts are on sale for 39 euros!

But to be completely immersed in the history of this emblematic place, Le Bon Marché also offers a play within the store itself. At nightfall, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche will open its doors after closing time to welcome visitors in complete privacy. For one evening, you can discover the store like never before. We dive into Emile Zola‘s Paris with “Au Bonheur des Dames”, an immersive work freely adapted from the famous novel.
