Claude & François-Xavier Lalanne featured in new exhibition at Musée des Arts Décoratifs

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs (MAD) unveils a new exhibition featuring 16 major works and 38 drawings by the artist couple Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne. Discover this exceptional event “Histoires naturelles. Dation François-Xavier et Claude Lalanne au Musée des Arts Décoratifs”, which will be held until 29 May 2022 in the museum’s nave.

The Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris plunges us into 60 years of creation from the 1960s to 2019, through works inspired by nature and animals such as the famous blue earthenware hippopotamus from the Egyptian collections of the Louvre Museum.

“These often hybrid works give rise to emotion, astonishment, amusement, a poetry nourished by surrealism, an artistic vision guided by the play on words, forms and materials”, commented the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.

Throughout the exhibition, you can admire nine works by François-Xavier Lalanne, two of which are particularly unique : La Mouche (1966-1967) and l’Hippopotame (1968-1969). On closer inspection, the latter work contains a washbasin and a bathtub. The seven works by Claude Lalanne are intended to demonstrate that in his mind and practice the meaning of the object is not purely decorative.
